This custom walnut bookcase was commissioned by a client who came to me through a long-time customer. The project was designed for her apartment in San Francisco, where both functionality and aesthetics were equally important.
A Corner Design with Adjustable Shelving
One of the key features of this piece is its corner configuration. Corner bookcases are always more challenging to design and build due to the precise angles, structural considerations, and the need for seamless visual integration. However, when executed properly, they make excellent use of space and create a striking architectural element in the room.
This bookcase includes adjustable shelving, allowing the client to easily modify the spacing between shelves to accommodate books, artwork, or decorative objects of different sizes. Flexibility was an important part of the design.

This piece was crafted from solid walnut, selected for its rich color, beautiful grain, and durability. The bookcase is finished with premium German hardwax oil by Osmo, which enhances the natural texture of the wood while providing long-lasting protection. The finish gives the surface a warm, natural feel that highlights the character of the walnut.
If desired, the bookcase can also be built from other hardwood species, such as:

Each wood species brings its own distinct character and tone to the final piece.
Modular Construction and Easy Delivery
The bookcase is built in modules. It is delivered to the client’s address in a disassembled form, which makes transportation and installation much easier — especially in apartment buildings with elevators, narrow hallways, or tight doorways. Once on site, the modules are assembled securely to create a seamless final structure.

The typical production time for a custom bookcase like this is 1.5 to 2 months, depending on design details, material selection, and current workload.
